Ao-chan Can't Study! // Underrated Romance Anime - Spring 2019

Ao-chan Can't Study is a Rom-Com anime containing twelve episodes with a duration of twelve minutes each that is currently airing as of Spring 2019 which has accumulated an average rating of 6.79 on MyAnimeList. Due to this being a short form and having a particularly low rating on MAL I'm sure a lot of people would gloss over this anime which is why I would like share my opinions on why you SHOULD watch this anime:

Story 7/10:
This anime follows Ao Horie who has been associated with "lewd" connotations since kindergarten as her dad was a bestselling erotic author, this leading her to study profusely so she could obtain independence from her father once and for all. However, soon "King Normie" AKA Takumi Kijima proclaims his love for Horie, baffled by this she trys to decline Kijima's confession only to fail time upon time again and this is basically the whole anime. There is little to no story development as of the currently aired five episodes however, the focal point of this anime is mostly the romance - I'm a huge sucker for a cute romance anime, though the development of their romantic advancement is very slow, mostly they get into "awkward situations" - Horie misunderstands Kijima's intentions to be lewd, slaps him and runs away embarrassed, this anime in a nutshell. Although its a pretty simple premise, it's very enjoyable if you generally just love romance anime - if you want more development however, this should be a miss for you.
Art 8/10:
Honestly the art-style is pretty nice and clean however, it's pretty generic nothing out of the usual style, backgrounds also being generic. However, the eyes of the characters in this anime stand out for me, especially Horie's eyes. Bright and just so so colourful - honestly it's beautiful, another underrated anime with some of the best Eye-Artstyle would definitely be Harukana Receive, absolutely stunning. Oh, the only really unique character design for this anime would probably be the father of Horie, being a very tiny man giving him a child-like manner most likely for a comedic effect as he is the"erotic-author" - who provides many of the awkward situations Horie faces in the anime.
Horie's eyes design

Sound 7/10:
I honestly don't pay much attention to many soundtracks in anime, mostly just there OPs and EDs. The soundtrack of the anime is okay, nothing that really sticks out to me everything seems to be rightfully in place etc. The ED is pretty basic as well (like most anime EDs). Although, the OP for this anime is honestly, in my opinion, one of the better openings of this season - upbeat and catchy - I would highly recommend you go and listen to this opening even if you don't plan on watching this anime as I feel it is overlooked.
Character 7/10:
The anime focuses around Ao Horie and Takumi Kijima as it should, although, there isn't much character development at all. We know from the start Horie is erotic herself, like her father, and wishes to stay out of those situations (while desiring them also) and Kijima is "King Normie" also a very pure and innocent guy who just wants to date Horie, not intending to appear obscene to her and this is pretty much the same formula throughout. Horie's dad, as previously stated, is mostly used for plot progression, putting his daughter into awkward situations with Kijima to try and get them into some erotic scene. Kijima's friends are used in a similar way - they're just basically there, they do nothing at all. Obviously there has to be a love interest that interferes with HorieXKijima, Miyabi Takaoka who again is just there for plot progression (or should I say plot prevention) as she tries to take Kijima away from Horie because DRAMA. The only character really to get any development - only being she knew Horie when she was in kindergarten (so nothing out of the ordinary).

Enjoyment 8/10:
Although I wouldn't say this anime is amazing or was unique out of the thousands of Rom-Com anime out there, it's a nice simple, cute Rom-Com to watch to relax to and feel happy too at all the "cute" moments in this anime. This anime honestly is a pleasure for me to just sit down and watch for twelve minutes as a simple break from course-work as it's not too long for me to procrastinate and want to watch more anime but also not short enough that I feel unsatisfied. Though I'm hoping for some FIRM confirmation that they end up together at the end of the anime or I'll most likely end up somewhat unsatisfied. Most likely will check out the manga for this one though!

Final Words: Its a simple, cute Rom-Com, albeit being generic, that is great to watch, especially considering the duration of the episodes, just to feel contempt and have a warm feeling inside at all the "cute" moments in this anime. Not recommended to anyone who wants fast plot development in their relationship.
